The World Famous Stadium Inn Lynchburg Bar & Restaurant.
The World Famous Stadium Inn is one of the oldest Lynchburg bars and restaurants. With humble beginnings in 1927, it has been a staple in the Lynchburg area for over 90 years.
When new owner Daryl Burgess saw a sign on the door saying “Closed until further notice” back in May of 2018, he contacted the owners and made them an offer. Daryl had a vision of The World Famous Stadium Inn being a local bar and restaurant near you that was friendly, with no hassles, no trouble, and no drama. A place to chill out and like one of the local pubs around the country made famous on the TV show “Cheers”, a place where everyone knows your name.
“I love to spend time with people, to hear their stories,” Daryl says, “It’s very interesting. People come into The Stadium Inn and spend an hour, two hours, sometimes three hours just hanging out and talking to people.”
After buying The World Famous Stadium Inn, Daryl Burgess recognized the aging bar and restaurant was in need of some repairs and upgrades. Daryl decided to keep the doors closed to make sure that when he opened back up there was no need to close the doors again. Like many old Lynchburg bars, part of the charm is its history. He knew he wanted to keep The World Famous Stadium Inn’s historic integrity intact by not making any major changes to the building’s walls and structure. However, after over 90 years in business, like most aging local pubs there were some upgrades needed to improve the bar and make it cosmetically pleasing and pass health inspections. Daryl upgraded the floors, ceiling and gutted the kitchen. In the kitchen, he added all new equipment: ovens, fryers, grills, new beer equipment, all new refrigeration, and walk-in freezer.
Two more changes Daryl Burgess decided to make to The World Famous Stadium Inn was to do away with smoking inside the Lynchburg bar and adding a small outdoor patio. The World Famous Stadium Inn re-opened on August 3, 2018.
The World Famous Stadium Inn is across the street from the Calvin Falwell Field, home of the Lynchburg Hillcats. Come enjoy a cold beer and a meal before or after a Hillcats game at one of the most historic Lynchburg bars and restaurants near you.
